There is the adage that “change is the only constant” and most of us would agree that the past few years have been exceptionally turbulent.
“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matthew 6:20-21"
When Matthew wrote his Gospel, Wealth could be stored in cloth and coin. Not only could thieves steal cloth and coin, but also moths could eat your cloth and rust could destroy your coin. The same is true today. We may have invested in stocks or our own home, but tomorrow our investment can be gone through the actions of thieves, termites, or a market downturn.
But heaven never decays! God is never corrupted!
And when we lay up our treasures in heaven, it reveals that our heart is with God, our heart loves God, and because our heart loves God, we invest in Him. And when we invest in Him, we invest in the only being, the only thing, the only Spirit that is not subject to decay or corruption. And our investment is protected eternally!
